With a population of more than 1.2 billion, India is clearly a potential market for the growth of the telecommunications industry. Official report from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), India's telecom regulator for March 2011menyebutkan number of users of mobile services (cellular) in India rose 2.55 percent, from 791.38 million in February 2011 to 811.59 million at the end of March 2011 . According to a report released April 30, mentioned that the total mobile communication subscribers in urban areas declined from 66.36 percent to 66.30 percent, while wireless subscribers in rural areas increased from 33.64 percent to 33.70 percent, bringing total teledensity Wireless in India reached 67.98 percent.
TRAI report also mentioned the increasing number of telephone subscribers (fixed and mobile) in India up to 846.32 million subscribers at the end of March 2011, an increase of 2.43 percent from February 2011. The report also mentioned that the number of subscribers in urban areas declined from 66.72 percent to 66.65 percent. While the number of customers in the area rular actually increased from 33.28 percent to 33.35 percent. Thus the total number of teledensity in India reached 70.89.
